What is the Hollywood Bias?
Despite the time period and regardless of the advancements made in Hollywood filmmaking, what has remained static is the portrayal of Muslims as a homogeneous group with stereotypical attributes. These attributes include Muslim men as oppressive, aggressive, and violent and Muslim women as submissive, oppressed, and sexually exotic. Not only are behaviors of Muslims stereotyped but also their living conditions are commonly displayed as primitive. Rather then fading over the years, these Hollywood biases have overcome the barriers of genre and time. The negative representations of Muslims have instilled an image of what Muslims are in the minds of the American public, which in turn result in mass bigotry, discrimination, and islamophobia.
